About Åse
Åse works as Trusted Advisor. She helps leaders and managers who want to optimize their own and their organization’s ability to lead, navigate, and manage complex crises and disasters.
When she can, she also takes time to support societies at large by working operationally (both nationally and internationally). Typically, in these situations, the teams are often hastily put together with staff who come from different organizations and different organizational cultures – both from the civilian and military sectors.
In 2021 Åse worked as Chief of Staff during a complex and drawn-out fire at a large garbage mountain, south of Stockholm. 2020 she worked for nine months as Chief of Staff in the Crisis Management Organization (Covid-19) at the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare. And during the summer of 2018 she deployed to a complex and large-scale forest fire in Trängslet/Älvdalen, where she worked as Chief of Staff and advisor at the Incident Command Center.
Internationally Åse has worked in several crisis- and disaster environments such as Haiti (Earthquake 2010); Lebanon/Syra – evacuation of 8 000 Swedes (armed conflict 2006); Indonesia (Tsunami 2004); and the West Bank/Palestine during the height of the 2:nd Intifada. She is a member of the National Reinforcement Group at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
Åse has a background with the Institute of National Defense and Security Policy Studies (IHT) at the Swedish Defense University (FHS) as Senior Advisor/Course Director/Course Developer and Lecturer. She worked around topics such as Resilience, Complexity & Wicked Problems, Early Warning & Strategic Analysis, Strategic Risk- and Crisis Communication, and Starategic Leadership & Decision-Making. She has also been guest lecturing at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) in Monterey, USA.
Further, Åse’s career includes work as Senior Strategic Advisor on Crisis Preparedness and Response at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). Internationally Åse has held positions with the United Nations Departmens for Safety and Security (UNDSS) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP). Her background also includes a long career with the Swedish Police – including 10 years as Crisis- and Hostage Negotiatior, trained and certified at the Swedish Counter Terrorist Unit as well as the FBI Crisis (Hostage) Negotiation School.
Academically, Åse holds a Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution (specializing in Crisis Management) from George Mason University, USA. And a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Crisis Management, from the same university. She is a member of Phi Beta Delta – Honor Society for International Scholars.
